Catherine Zeta-Jones cast as Morticia in Addams Family Netflix series ‘Wednesday’
Catherine Zeta-Jones has been cast to play Morticia Addams in Tim Burton’s live-action spin-off series Wednesday on Netflix.
The Oscar-winning Welsh actress, 51, will be playing the family matriarch alongside Luis Guzmán as Gomez Addams in the upcoming TV series.

Zeta-Jones is best known for her role in the 2002 musical Chicago, where she won a best supporting actress Oscar. Her wide filmography includes the action film The Mask of Zorro (1998), heist film Entrapment (1999), Traffic (2000), and Oceans Twelve (2004), among others.
Jenna Ortega, known for playing young Jane in comedy drama series Jane the Virgin, will play the lead role in the eight-episode series.
Acclaimed filmmaker Tim Burton, known for his gothic fantasy and macabre films such as Beetlejuice (1988), Edward Scissorhands (1990), Batman Returns (1992), and Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children (2016), will direct the series.
Based on the character originally created by cartoonist Charles Addams in 1938 for the New Yorker, the Wednesday series is described as a “coming-of-age comedy” set during the death-obsessed youngster’s school years at Nevermore Academy.
The role of Morticia Addams, Wednesday's mother, was first played by Carolyn Jones in the 1964 classic television series adaptation.
Anjelica Huston took over the iconic role in the 1991 film The Addams Family and its sequel two years later, Addams Family Values. Most recently, Charlize Theron was the voice of Morticia in the 2019 animated film.
