Emma Watson breaks 9-month social media hiatus to dispel engagement rumors

A social media break is all well and good, but when you’re a world-famous celebrity like Emma Watson, false rumors are bound to bring you back to the scene.

The Harry Potter and Little Women star broke her 9-month social media hiatus to debunk news that she and boyfriend Leo Robinton have gotten engaged over the pandemic.

In a series of tweets, Emma stated that “rumours about whether I’m engaged or not, or whether my career is ‘dormant or not’ are ways to create clicks each time they are revealed to be true or untrue.”

She went on to promise that if she did have big life news, her fans would be one of the first to know.

Watson also urged people not to assume any news unless it’s coming from her directly, as she’s spending the quarantine like the rest of us—trying to make bread and taking care of her family.

“I am sending so much love to you, hoping you’re ok and as well and happy as you can be in these strange times. And again, thank you to everyone working so hard to keep us safe and well,” she concluded

Social media last heard from Watson in August of 2020, when she regularly called for support for her advocacies and updated followers on her latest quarantine happenings.

In November of 2019, months before her 30th birthday, the actress rebranded her relationship status to “self-partnered.”

“I never believed the whole ‘I’m happy single’ spiel,” she shared with British Vogue. “I was like, ‘This is totally spiel.’ It took me a long time, but I’m very happy. I call it being self-partnered.”
