‘Grey’s Anatomy’ stuns fans with a shocking reunion in its Season 17 premiere
What a surprise!
Grey’s Anatomy fans went crazy with its Season 17 premiere, which features a shocking reunion of their favorite couple: Derek Shepherd (played by Patrick Dempsey) and Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo). They are seen reuniting on a quaint and charming beach after the latter passed out in the Grey Sloan parking lot.
Here's a quick look at it as posted on the show's official Instagram account:
Even Ebony Washington, the writers’ assistant at the series, knew fans were going to get stunned.

It can be recalled that Dempsey’s character died in a car accident in the 11th season, but it looks like viewers will be seeing more of him this time. “A preview for next week’s episode hints that there will be more to see from Meredith and Derek’s on-screen reunion but does little to clear up the context of it,” CNN International reported.
With the coronavirus references taking place in April this year, the two-hour episode served as “both a catch-up and an introduction to the world of ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ amid coronavirus.”
Its showrunner Krista Vernoff has expressed her excitement over the new season in a series of tweets.
I have too many deadlines to live tweet but I hope you all enjoy the hell out of this evening of TV. So many people worked so so hard to bring it to you!!!! ❤️❤️❤️ #Station19 #GreysAnatomy pic.twitter.com/J0beisWBTl

She then continued on to share some behind-the-scenes footage, saying “We didn’t let anyone on set to take pics. I took them on my phone.”

In her guesting on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Pompeo remained tight-lipped about the next turn of events. However, she said she’s happy to have found fulfillment in this project amid these trying times. “It was so fun because we know people were going to freak out," she told the TV host. "We all know 2020 has been a really long, ugly road. And we were so happy just to be able to film these scenes and know how much joy it was going to bring people."
For his part, Dempsey shared photos of himself with Pompeo taken on the set, reminding everyone their huge responsibility in the COVID-19 crisis.
