WATCH: Live action ‘Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City’ trailer

Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City, a reboot of the film series based on the popular survival horror video game of the same name, is set to hit theaters on Nov. 24.

Sony Pictures has provided a taste of what's in store for fans of the horror survival game, with the first trailer released Thursday.

The upcoming film is based on the first two games in the classic series and is a complete reboot following the six films of Paul W.S. Anderson which followed Milla Jovovich’s Alice. 

Earlier this year, writer and director Johannes Roberts (47 Meters Down) said he was taking things back to the franchise's horror roots.

The film, which takes place in Raccoon City, the origin of the t-virus outbreak in the game, features series mainstays Claire Redfield, Leon Kennedy, Jill Valentine, and Chris Redfield.

The flm reboot stars Kaya Scodelario (The Maze Runner) as Claire Redfield, Avan Jogia (Zombieland; Double Tap) as Leon S. Kennedy, Hannah John-Kamen (Ant-Man and the Wasp) as Jill Valentine, Robbie Amell (The Tomorrow People) as Chris Redfield and Tom Hopper (The Umbrella Academy) as villain Albert Wesker.

Set in 1998, the film’s trailer opens with the first game's creepy mansion as well as some of the city where the sequel takes place. There's a nod to the opening scene of Resident Evil 2, where an infected truck driver plows his tanker into Raccoon City. Then a montage of action scenes that looks pretty faithful to the source material, with locations, costumes, monsters, and 1990s visual effects all set to 4 Non Blonde’s ’90s hit What’s Up? And of course, zombie dogs.

There’s been a lot of Resident Evil projects in development lately, as the franchise celebrates its 25th anniversary. 

The animated series Resident Evil: Infinite Darkness, which also featured Leon S. Kennedy and Claire Redfield was released on Netflix earlier this year, and another live-action series focused on villain Albert Wesker and his kids is coming to the streamer.
