WATCH: Chaos ensues in the new 'Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes' trailer
Hunger Games fans are about to once again chant the infamous mantra "May the odds be ever in your favor" as Lionsgate has dropped the newest trailer for The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.
The nearly three-minute teaser shows a young Coriolanus Snow, the future tyrannical president of Panem, being asked the question "What are the Hunger Games for?" by the head game-maker of the 10th annual Hunger Games.
The trailer teases the new crop of tributes who will enter the arena and be forced to battle to the death. Coriolanus, who has been assigned as a mentor to one of them, then has a fateful encounter with a District 12 female tribute named Lucy Gray Baird and offers her his signature white rose.
As Coriolanus strives to keep Lucy alive in the games, a "rainbow of destruction" strikes them in a battle between good and evil.
The trailer finishes in an apprehensive way as Coriolanus is once again asked by the head game maker one final time: "What are the Hunger Games for?"
Based on Suzanne Collins’ novel of the same name, the upcoming film takes audiences into the shoes of Coriolanus as he is burdened by immense pressure for being the last hope of his failing lineage, which had fallen from grace in a post-war Capitol.
After being reluctantly assigned to mentor Lucy, Coriolanus sees an opportunity to change both of their lives for the better after the District 12's charm captivates the audience of Panem. The two of them work together to turn the odds in their favor, and Coriolanus will soon learn if he will ultimately become a songbird or a snake.
Starring Tom Blyth, Rachel Zegler, Peter Dinklage, Hunter Schafer, Josh Andrés Rivera, Jason Schwartzman, and Viola Davis, the film serves as a spin-off and a prequel to the original Hunger Games trilogy that features Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson.
The franchise is set in a dystopian universe where children from the first 12 districts are selected via lottery to participate in a compulsory televised battle royale death match called The Hunger Games.
The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is set to premiere on Nov. 17.
