What’s next after John Lloyd Cruz’s TV 'comeback' on GMA-7
After reports of his much-talked about showbiz comeback made headlines last week, John Lloyd Cruz finally appeared on GMA-7 during a TV special for an online shopping service on Sunday, June 6.
As reported, John Lloyd performed a song number during the TV event, which was hosted by Willie Revillame. Earlier reports say that Revillame, who also produced the show, is the one responsible for Cruz's appearance on the TV special.
John Lloyd performed the song "Yakap," originally performed by singer Junior, with lyrics that seems to pointedly reference the actor's current status in showbiz. Part of the song goes: "Ako ay nagbalik/At muli kang nasilayan/Hindi na 'ko muli pang lilisan."
The 37-year-old actor went on a showbiz hiatus in 2017. He had a brief appearance in the 2019 movie Culion, and is part of the yet to be released movie Servando Magdamag. Directed by Lav Diaz and written by Ricky Lee, the movie was tagged as the actor's film comeback.
His appearance on the GMA-7 special is touted as his TV comeback.
The actor turned emotional after his performance. "Nagpapasalamat sa’yo, nandito ako," he told Revillame.
John Lloyd added, "(I'm) excited to be back!"
In turn, Revillame announced the show he and John Lloyd will reportedly do for GMA-7. The host said it will be on "primetime."
"Abangan n’yo ho, abangan n’yo, magsasama kami ni Lloydie sa pagbibigay ng saya sa inyo, sa primetime show,” Revillame said.
No additional details were given, though earlier reports say the show will be a sitcom co-produced by GMA-7 and Revillame's own production company.
GMA Network board director Annette Gozon-Valdes said in an interview with the Philippine Star last week that the said show is still in its "brainstorming," pre-production stage.
In any case, Revillame's announcement seems to be a confirmation that John Lloyd's first acting project on TV after his years-long hiatus will be with GMA-7.
