Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World video game revival 'in the works,' says creator
It looks like Scott, the gang, and Ramona’s League of Evil Exes may have a chance of coming back on-screen as video game characters after Scott Pilgrim vs. The World director Edgar Wright and creator Bryan Lee O'Malley teased a possible revival of the delisted title back in 2014.
Scott Pilgrim vs. Ubisoft
During the film’s launch in August 2010, its side-scrolling retro beat ‘em up video game counterpart of the same name was also released as a digital download for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 by Ubisoft. The game features both single-player and multiplayer modes.

It loosely follows the story of the graphic novels where players must battle seven levels in order to defeat Ramona Flowers’ Seven Evil Exes.
During the game’s development, both the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World creator O'Malley and the film adaptation’s director Wright, worked hands-on with the Ubisoft team on how the game’s narrative and flow should be handled. DLCs were soon released in the following years.
But on Dec. 30, 2014, the game and its DLCs were delisted suddenly from both Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network with no official statement from Ubisoft. By that time, the game had already amassed a cult following, enough to organize petitions to demand the re-release of the game.
The creators were also frustrated by the sudden loss of the game, and talks have been made to resurface the title, as revealed by Scott Pilgrim designer Jonathan Lavigne.
“We made some efforts to get the ball rolling back in 2016 but it went nowhere,” says Lavigne to his interview with Kotaku. “We had Bryan Lee O'Malley and Oni Press on board, but ultimately, it’s entirely up to Ubisoft and Universal.”

During The Academy’s rewatch of Wright’s Michael Cera-fronted cult classic, O'Malley tweeted: “bring back the scott pilgrim game #bringbackthescottpilgrimgame #WatchWithTheAcademy”
Out of the blue, Ubisoft’s official account replied to him with the classic thinking emoji.
Fast forward to the film adaptation’s 10th anniversary, O'Malley finally confirmed “PS. ubisoft has reached out to me.”
Another tweet that supports the Scott Pilgrim creator’s statement is from Wright. After announcing a re-release of the movie’s soundtrack containing unreleased songs from 10 years ago, Wright replied from a tweet addressing the re-release of the cancelled game.
“We’re working on the video game situation…” he said.
Now what?
Although things are looking up for the Scott Pilgrim vs The World video game revival, further announcements are yet to be made regarding its proposed release date and playable platforms.
Meanwhile, fans have set up a Change.org petition hoping for a remastered version on the PS4, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PC.
Aside from the video game revival, Wright also revealed some plans about a possible anime series for Scott Pilgrim.
“There's some plans — and there's nothing official yet — but there are some plans to revisit the material in an animation way," the director said during his interview with Entertainment Weekly. “It’s being discussed as we speak.”
