Cobra Kai teaser reveals season 3 premiere, fate of Miguel

Since debuting on YouTube Red in 2018, Cobra Kai has become one of the biggest TV series on the planet that didn't have dragons in it. A continuation of the Karate Kid films from the 1980s, it ran for two seasons up to 2019 before jumping to Netflix in June of this year, where it multiplied its massive worldwide audience by replaying the first two seasons on the streaming service.

Before going further, be warned: Spoilers ahead for the plot of seasons one and two and what to expect from season three. So, finish up your binge watch of Cobra Kai first before proceeding!

The first season of Cobra Kai picked up 34 years after the first Karate Kid film, and follows the story of Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) who lost to Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio) at the 1984 All-Valley Karate Tournament.

When Johnny loses his job as a handyman, he re-opens the Cobra Kai dojo after using karate to rescue a teenager, Miguel (Xolo Maridueña), from a group of bullies. Meanwhile, Johnny's estranged son, Robby (Tanner Buchanan), finds a father figure in Daniel who then teaches him Miyagi-Do karate.

By the second season, tensions between the students of Cobra Kai and Miyagi-Do have escalated while Daniel and Johnny continue butting heads over their past. Things got even more complicated with the return of Cobra Kai's founder, John Kreese (Martin Kove).

The end of the second season culminated in a violent karate brawl at the high school between Daniel's daughter, Sam (Mary Mouser), new girl Tory (Peyton List), Miguel, Robby, and every student from the rival dojos. During the fight, Robby kicked Miguel over a balcony, seriously wounding him.

The season concluded with Sam hurt, Miguel unconscious in the ICU, Robby on the run, and Johnny and Daniel having to deal with everything that's happened.

A third season was without question even before the move from YouTube, it was only a matter of when. We now have the answer in the form of a brand new teaser trailer that gives us glimpses of the fallout from the events of season two.

First off, Miguel's alive! In what condition, we'll just have to wait and see. We see quick flashes of what looks to be the dire consequences from the high school rumble. It's a given that being the parents/guardians of Sam, Robby, and Miguel, Daniel and Johnny will have to carry a hefty emotional burden as they work out their differences.

And then there's Kreese. By season's end he had managed to slither his way back to the top by undermining Johnny's command of the Cobra Kai dojo. Kreese will no doubt play a huge role once again in the brewing conflict.

However, the most exciting announcement – aside from the season three release date – is at the end of the trailer with a confirmation for a fourth season!

There's no date yet for season four, but season three of Cobra Kai definitely starts on January 8, 2021 exclusively on Netflix.
