'Music is all that matters:' Ely Buendia on what he learned after revealing that the Eraserheads were never friends
After drawing flak for revealing that there was no actual friendship among his Eraserheads bandmates, former lead vocalist Ely Buendia had this to say: “Your statements will be taken out of context to fit people’s prejudices.”
He then stressed on Twitter that he “never talked sh*t about anyone during Jim and Saab’s podcast.
"I can even say I was gracious. But websites need clickbait, and unfortunately people don’t read," Buendia said in a tweet.
Lessons from the whole “not friends”
Bruhaha: your statements will be taken out of context to fit people’s prejudices. Never talked shit about anyone during Jim and Saab’s podcast, I can even say I was gracious. But websites need clickbait, and unfortunately people don’t read...— Ely Buendia (@elybuendia9001) May 27, 2021
It can be recalled that in a podcast by Jim Bacarro and Saab Magalona, he revealed that he and the ex-band members Buddy Zabala, Marcus Adoro, and Raymund Marasigan were “never friends.”
“What fans didn’t know, what the public didn’t know is we were never okay,” he said. “I don’t want to break any hearts again… we were never close, we were never friends, as in tight friends. That’s why we broke up."
He, however, stressed it “was good while it lasted” as they had “a very, very good working relationship.”
“It’s just that I don’t like it when people say that it was the wrong way to go, ‘yung dynamics within the band,” explained Ely.
Buendia shared the backstory in the context of talking about their anthemic song Minsan, which is about close friends looking back at their friendship. He said that contrary to what some fans may think, the song is not about the band members but rather about his "actual friends" from the Kalayaan dormitory at the University of the Philippines.
Some fans, however, did not like his revelation and aired their grievance on social media.
“Why hate on people who want to tell the truth?” he questioned. “I didn’t ask to be interviewed. Nananahimik na nga ako dito eh, living a happy life. Kayo 'yung makulit about the Eheads.”
After all, the most important thing is the music they created when they were still together. “Have you forgotten about that, and who wrote most of it? Just sayin.”
Big deal, still? Why hate on people who want to tell the truth? I didn’t ask to be interviewed, nanahimik na nga ko dito eh living a happy life kayo yung makulit about the eheads. The music is all that matters, have you forgotten about that, and who wrote most of it??just sayin.

“If it helps, the other guys are best buds so you can follow them if you like that,” he concluded, sharing a photo of his cat “not giving a sh*t.”
