Pop of color: Apple outs new iPad, iPad Pro in new colorways
A month after Apple launched the new iPhone 14, the tech giant introduced its newest generation iPad and iPad Pro, which come with a refreshed design in more colorways and the powerful M2 chip, respectively.
Apple took the wraps off the new tablets on Oct. 18 in an online event from its Cupertino office.
Complete refresh
The 10th generation iPad saw the most drastic updates—now, it looks more like the iPad Air and iPad Pro with slimmer bezels and no home button in front. Under the hood, it's powered by an A14 Bionic chip for delivering faster performance for demanding tasks. It also now charges via USB-C, a departure from the Lightning port on the 9th gen iPad.
In addition, there's no longer a Touch ID button for the screen in front. The fingerprint sensor now sits in the power button found on the top right side of the device.
This iPad also features Apple's first-ever landscape camera—you'll find the shooter on the right bezel, a few inches below the volume rocker. This way, when you're taking calls in landscape, you'll be able to look directly at the camera instead of to the side. This front camera is a 12MP ultrawide lens, while at the back, there's a single 12MP sensor capable of shooting videos in 4K.
This 10.9-inch iPad with a Liquid Retina Display comes in four bright colors: blue, pink, yellow, and silver. Its price starts at P29,990 for the 64GB WiFi-only version.
Packing more power
Meanwhile, the iPad Pro gets more powerful with the new M2 chip, the same processor found in the 2022 MacBook Air. With the chip, Apple says the tablet can breeze through tasks like editing high-res videos, creating photorealistic 3D designs, building intricate AR models, and playing console-quality games.
The new iPad Pro comes in two sizes: 11-inch and 12-inch models, both of which feature Apple's ProMotion 120Hz refresh rate. The next-gen iPad also gains a new "hover" feature wherein it detects if your Apple Pencil is positioned slightly above the screen for more ways to interact with content.
In addition, this tablet supports WiFi 6E, so users can take on demanding workflows anywhere.
Both iPads support iOS16, the latest major OS software upgrade, which goes live on Oct. 24. This update brings new features like Stage Manager, desktop-class apps, and reference mode.
The 11-inch iPad Pro starts at P55,990, while the 12.9-inch model starts at P75,990. Color options include silver and space gray.
Aside from the new tablets, Apple launched a new Magic Keyboard Folio for the 10th gen tablet. This portable keyboard cover features full-size keys, a trackpad, and a 14-key function row.
