'Straight from 'Black Mirror'': Fans react to Apple Vision Pro announcement with funny memes

Published Jun 06, 2023 4:19 pm

Apple announced its highly anticipated AR/VR headset called Vision Pro at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023, and the internet has mixed reactions and funny memes to go with it.

The headset, which sells for a whopping $3,499 (P197,000), allows users to interact with digital content in mixed reality using their hands, eyes, and voice—they can even stream Disney+ shows and play NBA 2K.

Most of the comments had to do something about the price, with Twitter users complaining it is way overpriced. One meme joked about how the model in the ad had to "sell everything" just to get a Vision Pro, as she is seen in a room with minimal furniture.

A video posted on TikTok also went viral after it captured the reaction of the crowd during WWDC when the price was revealed.

Fans of the dark British anthology series Black Mirror also chimed in, saying that we are one step closer to a Black Mirror episode. If one can recall, the "Playtest" episode follows an American tourist named Coope (Wyatt Russell) who play-tests a new AR game in London.

There was also another episode titled "The Entire History of You," which is set in the future and allows humans to record and replay their memories through an eye implant.

"Apple Vision Pro is giving Black Mirror season 1," wrote one user.

Another noted: "I've seen enough Black Mirror to know the vision pro is a terrible idea."

Meanwhile, others were reminded of the View Master, the retro children's toy that lets you view stereoscopic 3D images.

"Apple Vision Pro? Never heard of it mate," it wrote.

Another Twitter user shared a photo of a man using VR goggles outside a cafe, writing: "This will be me at Starbucks when I get the Apple Vision Pro."

One user from Thailand shared a photo of the gadget alongside a picture of Michelin Star restaurant owner Jay Fai, who wears safety goggles when she cooks.

Despite this, there are some who are excited for the new technology, which arrives early in 2024.

"The Apple Vision Pro, and while it costs another pair of kidneys I kid you not, it is going to revolutionize home entertainment and education sectors," tweeted a user.

"This Apple Vision Pro demo was incredible. The small animation details in the headset, the colorways of the scenes and outfits, and addressing all my user concerns and questions throughout the demo. This new technology and user experience is really exciting! It's beautiful," shared another.

Aside from the Vision Pro, Apple also announced the release of their "thinnest" Macbook Air, the new iOS17 update, and more.
