After being postponed, Darna set to take flight again in 2021

Darna is set to fly again in 2021.

When actress Jane de Leon renewed her contract with Star Magic earlier today, December 4, ABS-CBN COO of Broadcast Cory Vidanes also announced that de Leon will still take on the lead role in the Philippine superhero movie adaptation. “Tuloy na tuloy na po ang paglipad ni Darna. At ang gaganap bilang Darna ay walang iba kundi si Ms. Jane de Leon na patuloy na nagpapakita ng sipag at determinasyon sa paghahanda sa muling paglipad ni Darna.”

De Leon evidently felt ecstatic to hear the news, reliving the time she got her dream part last year. “I'm so overwhelmed,” she said. “I'm really happy to be here. I feel so blessed to be a Kapamilya.”

In 2019, she bested 200 Filipino women who auditioned for the role.

Just recently, Liza Soberano—who backed out of the Darna role last year due to finger injury—made the rounds online as her training resurfaced on different social media platforms. The video was posted by mixed martial arts fighter Erwin Tagle late last month. Some netizens reposted the video, referring to her as "the best Darna we never had."
