Emma Roberts joins 'Spider-Man' spin-off 'Madame Web'
Actress Emma Roberts has been cast in Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man spin-off Madame Web.
However, the role of the American Horror Story star still remains unknown. Additional details about her character are yet to be revealed, as of this writing.
Earlier this year, Fifty Shades' Dakota Johnson was cast in the main title role as Madame Web in the upcoming superhero film.
Aside from Johnson, Euphoria’s Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, and Tahar Rahim will be joining Roberts in the spin-off as reported by Deadline. The film will be directed by S.J. Clarkson of Jessica Jones fame.
Madame Web revolves around a blind elderly woman who’s connected to a life-support system (similar to a spider web) due to the chronic autoimmune disease myastenia gravis.
In Marvel's Spider-Man comic book series, Madame Web is usually depicted as a supporting character with powers of clairvoyance and precognition. However, due to her age and medical condition, she never fought any villains which essentially makes her “Sony’s version of Doctor Strange.”
Reports revealed that Madame Web will be Roberts’ first Marvel film.
Films set in Sony's Spider-Man Universe, includingVenom, Venom: Let there Be Carnage, and Morbius, are produced by Columbia Pictures in association with Marvel Entertainment.
Madame Web is set to be released on July 7, 2023, in theaters.
