Games Done Quick raises $2.8 million for Doctors Without Borders
The semi-annual video game speedrun charity recently raised $2,897,000 for the Doctors Without Borders organization during its iteration of Summer Games Done Quick Online 2021 (SGDQ).
Despite being held online and during a pandemic, the community still proved to be a very generous one as they secured their third-best donation return on record.
Awesome Games Done Quick 2020 holds the record for the highest return with $3,164,002 with SGDQ 2019 at second with $3,039,596.07.
The summer event was held over a week with over 100 games getting a speedrun medicine as the community and viewers contributed both through donations and speedrun entertainment for the French international humanitarian medical non-governmental organization.
Games Done Quick events have been going on since 2010 and have accrued a total of 661,100 donations amounting to $34,237,234.18.
The organizing team also shared the dates for its upcoming events, including the all-women speedrunning event Flame Fatales from August 15-21 and Awesome Games Done Quick 2022 from January 9-16, 2022.
All of the speedruns held during the event can be viewed on their official Youtube Channel.
