YouTube to launch AI chatbot 'YouChat' where users can ask questions about videos

Want to know more about your favorite content? This new feature on YouTube lets you ask questions or any requests on their built-in AI-powered chatbot. 

YouTube is set to launch its newest feature, called “YouChat,” where users can ask questions, recommendations, or any requests on the streaming platform's built-in chatbot. 

According to a report by Variety, the feature is currently in its testing phase on a few videos that have large comment sections and will be officially launched on premium users with Android devices in the U.S. in the next few weeks. 

Those who would like to use the feature by tapping the “ask” button located beneath the video. It will also have a suggested prompt in case you’re not sure what to ask. 

Some of its services include answering queries about the specific video, suggesting related content, or even summarizing the comment section in case you want to quickly catch up on the topic or for content creators, collate suggestions for the next content, and more—all without interrupting the playback.  

Its responses “are generated by large language models that draw on information from the YouTube platform and the web,” YouTube told Variety. 

The new feature will only be limited to English language on selected videos; Premium users can try it here. 

“Over the coming weeks and months, we’ll learn more about how viewers are using these new features and continue to introduce more updates that make YouTube even more relevant and useful,” YouTube added.

This AI-powered chatbot is the newest addition to the AI exploration of the platform, including “Dream Screen” which allows users to choose background images or video for YouTube Shorts, “YouTube Create” for automated video editing, like putting filters and transitions, and AI-generated playlists for YouTube Music, among others.
