Nintendo announces title, release date for 'The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild' sequel
Zelda fans finally got more details on the much-awaited sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild as Nintendo announced the official title and release date of the upcoming game.
During a Nintendo Direct presentation on Sept. 13, the company unveiled The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, which will be coming to Nintendo Switch on May 12, 2023.
Fans also got a glimpse of the upcoming title in a new trailer. Although it wasn't actual gaming footage yet, the teaser showed hero Link soaring through the skies of Hyrule and climbing in the open-world game. It also gave a peek at other new powers and weapons to come.

The Breath of the Wild sequel was originally expected for a 2022 release until it was postponed to 2023. In a video announcing the delay, the game's producer Eiji Aounuma said the postponement was to "make this game's experience something special, the entire development team is continuing to work diligently on this game, so please wait a while longer."

Breath of the Wild was first released in 2017, earning critical acclaim. It's also the fourth best-selling Nintendo Switch game with over 27.13 million copies sold as of June 30, 2022.
