Twitter is testing out a ‘thumbs down’ feature
All we need is likes.
Following in the footsteps of YouTube, Reddit and Facebook groups, Twitter is planning to release a downvote feature for its users.
The dislike button comes in the shape of a thumbs-down sign. Unlike Liked tweets that are a publicly viewable metric, Tweets that users will unlike will only be visible to them. Think Bookmarks tab, but just for the things you don’t like seeing.
Moreover, the feature will only be limited to responses and not the original standalone Tweets. It also won’t change the order of replies in the original thread no matter how many people like or dislike a reply.
Although shaped like a thumbs-down sign, Twitter is also adamant in maintaining that the rollout isn’t necessarily a “dislike.”
“We're testing this to understand the types of replies you find relevant in a convo, so we can work on ways to show more of them,” they shared.
"Your downvotes aren’t public, while your upvotes will be shown as likes."

The feature is only available for selected users now, with a global rollout to come if the beta testing proves successful.
