Crunchyroll reveals new trailer for myth-inspired anime ‘Onyx Equinox’
Anime streaming giant Crunchyroll has just released a gripping dark-themed trailer for Onyx Equinox, an action-packed original anime series about the conflict between gods and humans. This early preview promises to be one heck of an adventure.
The bloody new trailer (yes it is literally overflowing with violence, gore and ritual sacrifices) tells the story of the gods and tribal life in ancient Mesoamerica. This is the third original anime series from Crunchyroll this 2020, after Tower of God and God of High School.
But unlike the first two, Onyx Equinox isn’t based on a webtoon or manga. Instead, it’s an original concept created and illustrated by Sofia Alexander for 13 years.
Here’s the synopsis:
The gods are at war for the future of humanity, and an Aztec boy named Izel finds himself caught in the middle of their dangerous game. In order to save humankind, he must complete an impossible task: closing the five gates to the underworld. Izel reluctantly agrees, but only after learning his quest will also correct a terrible tragedy. His journey to become humanity’s champion will be one of hope and despair, of trust and betrayal, where Izel must confront his own darkness and decide if the human race — with all its flaws and contradictions — is worth saving.
Onyx Equinox features the voices of Olivia Brown as Izel, Alejandro Vargas-Lugo as Yaotl, Carolina Ravassa as Zyanya, Kimberly Woods as Xanastaku, Patrick Pedraza as Yun, Juan Arturo Maldonado as K'in, Sofia Alexander as Nelli, K'i'ik, and Meque, Zeus Mendoza as Quetzalcoatl, Fayna Sanches as the Healer, Arin Hanson as Tezcatlipoca, and Castulo Guerra as Mictlantecuhtli.
The anime will debut on Crunchyroll starting Nov. 21, dubbed in English, Spanish, Brazilian, Portuguese, French and German.
