The hit rom-com novel Crazy Rich Asians is set to be turned into a Broadway musical by director Jon Chu, who was also behind its 2018 film adaptation.

Author Kevin Kwan made the announcement in an Instagram post on Thursday, April 18, sharing a screenshot from a report by The Hollywood Reporter. "Start spreadin' the news," he wrote in the caption.

"I’m beyond excited to be working with [Chu] again and an amazing tribe of musical geniuses," he continued. "Who wants to audition?"

According to THR, Kwan is developing the musical with Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures. It also features a book by Leah Nanko Winkler, music by Helen Park, and lyrics by Amanda Green and Tat Tong.

The film and Kwan’s book trilogy—with other entries being China Rich Girlfriend and Rich People Problems—will serve as bases for the musical.

Crazy Rich Asians follows economics professor Rachel Chu, an American-born Chinese who travels with her Singaporean boyfriend, history professor Nick Young, to a wedding in his home country. Rachel finds out that he’s from an extremely wealthy family, which doesn’t approve of her.

It had a movie adaptation in 2018, starring Constance Wu as Rachel, Henry Golding as Nick, and Michelle Yeoh as the latter's mother.
