Rebel Wilson, Charles Melton, Cha Eun Woo to star in upcoming film 'K-Pop: Lost in America'
Heads up, Hollywood and Hallyu fans! Get ready to feast your eyes on the upcoming film K-Pop Lost in America, as it has just been confirmed to star Pitch Perfect actress Rebel Wilson, Riverdale star Charles Melton, and ASTRO idol Cha Eun Woo.
The filming of the east-meets-west flick is set to begin in the second half of 2022, according to Deadline’s report. Lynda Obst and Miky Lee of CJ Entertainment will be producing the film, while South Korean filmmaker JK Youn will be directing.
The upcoming film garnered attention not only because of the promising cast but also due to the reputable works of Obst (Interstellar and Sleepless in Seattle) as well as that of Youn (Tidal Wave and Ode to My Father).
Written by Jeff Kaplan & Ian Springer, K-Pop Lost in America will take viewers on an adventure involving a K-pop group that has to overcome a series of “crazy obstacles” after being stranded in Texas by mistake. The unexpected inconvenience befalls the group just days before their global debut at Madison Square Garden kicks off. The twist? They are prompted to find ways to make it to New York without phones, money, and transportation.
Korean entertainment portal KBIZoom reported that the production team has chosen Cha Eun Woo for the lead role after a series of discussions. Eun Woo is one of the idols of ASTRO, a six-member South Korean boyband that debuted in 2016 with the EP Spring Up. He has previously starred in hit Korean dramas, incuding True Beauty, My ID is Gangnam Beauty, and My Brilliant Life.
Meanwhile, Australian actress Rebel Wilson is known for her comedic role as “Fat Amy” in the Pitch Perfect trilogy, in addition to the characters she played in Jojo Rabbit and Isn’t It Romantic. Charles Melton, on the other hand, plays the role of Reggie Mantle in the CW series Riverdale, which is based on the iconic Archie Comics series.
