‘Labyu tito Bong!’ Dennis Trillo is the ultimate relatable fanboy at the 78th Venice Film Festival
It’s perfectly normal to gush over your idols, and even more so when you're actually surrounded by the likes of industry greats like Bong Joon-ho and Chloé Zhao. In fact, it's even apt to snap a selfie or two—or three, or four.
This was exactly what happened to actor Dennis Trillo during his romp at the 78th Venice Film Festival yesterday, Sept. 12, at the premiere showing of Erik Matti's critically-acclaimed On The Job: The Missing 8.
Taking to Instagram to chronicle his journey, Trillo shared everything from being praised by the jury to fulfilling his “mission” of getting a certain Academy Award-winning signature.
At first, Dennis shared how he was nearby Korean director, Bong Joon-ho, along with an adorable video of him saying hi to the camera with English actress Cynthia Erivo and Canadian star Sarah Gadon, who are part of the festival's jury.
"It's a video," Dennis says before waving to the camera at the Palazzo del Cinema.
The stars then turned to Trillo to praise him for his performance as prisoner-turned-hitman Roman Rubio.
"You were so great," Bong Joon-ho exclaimed to the actor.
"You were brilliant. You were amazing," Erivo also said. They were then joined by German director Alexander Nanau who continued to give compliments to Trillo.
In another update, Trillo shared that he had gathered the courage to ask for a selfie with Bong Joon-ho alongside director Quark Henares. Eagle-eyed followers can see the official Parasite graphic novel near the Korean filmmaker.
"Mission Accomplished!!! Thank you tito Bong!!!"
Satisfying his fanboy inklings even more, he proceeded to share a group photo with Nomadland director and 2021 Academy Award-winning director Chloé Zhao.
Finally, his goals came to fruition after getting his copy of the Parasite visual book signed by the Bong Joon-ho himself, along with a beaming selfie with the acclaimed director.
Parasite: A Graphic Novel in Storyboards showcases the 2019 film's vision, with shot-per-shot illustrations from the Bong Joon-ho and further details on the film.
“Labyu tito Bong! Thank you for signing my book,” Trillo captioned.
In a separate Instagram story, he also shared that he had specifically brought the thick hardbound book at the film festival for the director to sign.
"Dinala ko to para papirmahan sa tito ko! Thank you tito bong!"
Mission accomplished, indeed.
Meanwhile, On The Job: MIssing 8 was a star in its own right that night after garnering a 5-minute standing ovation during its premiere night.
Veteran actor John Arcilla also nabbed the country's first Coppa Volpi for Best Actor, a prestigious award that’s been given to the likes of Brad Pitt, Joaquin Pheonix, and Ben Affleck. Arcilla reprised his role as journalist Sisoy Salas for the crime thriller film.
