YouTube launches new feature for creators to earn money
YouTube has launched a new feature called “Super Thanks,” introducing another way for creators to earn money through purchases from their viewers.
Fans can buy a Super Thanks priced at $2, $5, $10, and $50 or local currency equivalent (from P100 to P2,517 as of this writing). After a successful purchase, an animated GIF and highlighted comment will appear which creators can respond to.
The new feature is a tool for creators to maintain meaningful connections with their fans, “while also giving them a new way to make money” and for viewers to “express their gratitude and show support,” chief product officer Neal Mohan said.
YouTube will take a 30 percent cut from the revenue generated from the Super Thanks purchases similar to other “Paid Digital Good” of the platform, as reported by Variety. This can attract probable creators to join the video-sharing platform.
Super Thanks is currently available to thousands of monetizing creators in 68 countries, including the Philippines, and will expand to all eligible creators in YouTube's partner program in late 2021.
The newest launch is part of the “Paid Digital Good” of YouTube alongside exclusive content through channel memberships, Super Chat for five-hour highlighted message in the chat stream, and Super Stickers for animated stickers during livestreams and premieres.
