The VR version of Among Us will be a first-person 3D experience instead of a third-person 2D one, but it retains the “core mechanics” of developer Innersloth’s original multiplayer game.
The brief trailer shows a glimpse of the immersive murder-mystery experience in VR. We see a bunch of vents in a cartoony 3D room and a player’s hand entering a code while ominous music plays before getting attacked by a crewmate/sinister imposter.
The online multiplayer game where a large group of players have to guess the identity of a dangerous hidden threat (similar to party games like Mafia and Werewolf) was first released on iOS and Android devices in June 2018 and Windows later that year.
It was ported to Nintendo Switch consoles in late 2020 and will be getting an Xbox and PlayStation release this December 2021. The game allows for cross-platform play across devices.
The VR adaptation is part of a partnership with consulting firm Robot Teddy, which is overseeing the game’s jump to new platforms.
No release date for the VR version of Among Us has been revealed.
