Pika! Pika! Perry!
Katy Perry collaborates with Pokémon for 25th anniversary music project
Pop icon and new mom Katy Perry is set to collaborate with the Pokémon franchise on its 25th anniversary for a special music program in partnership with Universal Music Group.
The details of the P25 Music project is still in the planning stages, but expect some surprise global campaigns throughout the year.
In an exclusive interview with People magazine, Katy Perry shared, "I love being a part of anything that is playful and is good storytelling and has really good messages to share with the world. Now having a child myself, I understand that it's so important to play. This is a continued extension of who I am."
Way back in 2019, Katy Perry was able to visit The Pokémon Cafe in Japan and had an amazing time, "It was amazing. It brought up all these wonderful childhood memories. I've been going to Japan since I was 17 every year and have always really loved everything that's been created there."
When asked who her favorite Pokémon character is, she chose the cute protagonist Pikachu.
"I understand the story of Pikachu. On the surface, you might just think I'm just cute, have a couple of cute songs," she adds. "But if you dig deeper, you'll realize Chained to the Rhythm is not just a fun little song!"
As early as now, Pokémon lovers are excited to know what the plans are for the 25th Anniversary. Who will join Katy Perry in the P25 Music Project?
On Instagram, Katy expressed her excitement. On the caption she writes:
"Where you were directly affects where you are now... ♥
Meaning... I can’t believe I used to trade my POGS for @Pokemon cards at lunch in junior high and now I get to be part of the #pokemon25 celebration... let’s just say I’m feelin pretty ⚡️electric⚡️ bout it"
