Breath of the Wild prequel Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity coming to Switch this November
Although a sequel to the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will not be launching anytime soon, Nintendo revealed last night that it’s currently working on a prequel to the highly-acclaimed Zelda title which will be launched later this year.
The game, which is called Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, is set 100 years before the events of Breath of the Wild and will explore the sprawling landscapes of Hyrule before the occurrence of the Great Calamity. Apart from Link, players will get to take control of Zelda as well as Daruk, Mipha, Revali and Urbosa, also known as the four Champions who took control of the Divine Beasts.
Nintendo said that Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will feature action-heavy gameplay similar to Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem. In addition to the hack-and-slash gameplay, the prequel will also feature “a robust story that depicts the events, relationships and dramatic moments of the Great Calamity in captivating detail.”
Nintendo explained that apart from taking on swarms of enemies to defend Hyrule, players will also “solve environmental puzzles, unlock weapons and skills, craft materials, visit shops to obtain items and use the power of the Sheikah Slate.” Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity will launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch on November 20, 2020.
