Google Play celebrates 10th anniversary with new logo and 10x Play Points bonus

Published Jul 26, 2022 7:52 pm

Google Play just turned 10 years old!

After a decade in service, the digital distribution store dedicated their success to their users and developers with a revamped logo with colors that match Google's other services and a new offer.

Google Play VP Tian Lim expressed his gratitude for users’ long-standing support for their service and reminisced about the early days in 2012 where they first launched the application in an official blog posted on July 25.

“That year, we opened the (digital) doors of Google Play. A decade later, more than 2.5 billion people in over 190 countries use Google Play every month to discover apps, games and digital content,” wrote Lim.

“And more than 2 million developers work with us to build their businesses and reach people around the globe.”

To celebrate Google Play’s milestone, Lim unveiled the updated look of the application’s logo with minor adjustments to its shape and color.

To round out this decade, we’re introducing a new logo that better reflects the magic of Google and matches the branding shared by many of our helpful products — Search, Assistant, Photos, Gmail and more,” wrote Lim.

To thank the community of Google Play users and developers, Lim also announced that they are offering a 10x boost to their Google Play Points with the start date varying for each country that has access to the service.

The program lets users earn points and rewards with the Google Play Store. With Google Play Points, you can:

  • Earn points for purchases of digital content, in-app items, and downloads from the Google Play Store.
  • Use points to get discount coupons, in-app items, or Google Play Credit.
  • Get more benefits, rewards, and points as your level goes up.

The content that users can buy and earn points from will depend on the country. As of this posting, the Google Play Points is not yet available in the Philippines.
