A miniature doll is going to the big screen, as a Polly Pocket live-action film adaptation has been confirmed.

Written and directed by Lena Dunham, creator of the HBO series Girls, the upcoming film sees Emily In Paris star Lily Collins playing the titular doll character. The film presented by Mattel and MGM also sees Collins as executive producer.

The movie will revolve around a newfound friendship between a young girl and her micro-sized doll, played by Collins.

“Polly Pocket was responsible for countless hours of childhood escapism for me–Polly gave me a tiny world of magic and autonomy to narrate, so it’s pretty poetic to be tackling these same ideas now as a director," Dunham shared regarding the film.

“I’m so thrilled to bring to bear both my love of this historic property and also my deep-seated belief that young women need smart playful films that speak to them without condescension.”

Meanwhile, Collins expressed her excitement to reintroduce the Polly Pocket name into the 21s century. "As a child who was obsessed with Polly Pocket, this is a real dream come true and I can’t wait to bring these tiny toys to the big screen," the 32-year-old actress said.

This wouldn't be the first film project that Mattel has signed with its ever-popular toys, as a Barbie live-action film had also been confirmed back in December of 2020. Little Women director Greta Gerwig is set to helm the forthcoming film, with Margot Robbie portraying the blonde multi-hyphenate doll.
