'Doraemon' voice actor passes away at 84
Doraemon voice actor Tomita Kosei passed away at the age of 84.
As reported by Channel News Asia, his agency confirmed that the voice actor died after suffering a stroke on September 27.
“Our company’s Tomita Kosei (age of death, 84) passed away on September 27 in the second year of Reiwa (2020) due to a stroke,” the statement read.
Tomita first lent his voice to Doraemon when the iconic series premiered in 1973. The 84-year-old actor also voiced other popular anime series including Astro Boy, Detective Conan, Lupin The Third Part 1 and 2, Mazinger Z and Cowboy Bebop.
Tomita was among the recipients of the Merit Award during the 3rd Seiyu Awards in 2009.
