The hottest apps for the busy girl

Published Mar 17, 2021 7:26 pm

Juggling work, home, and personal responsibilities has always been a daunting task, and the pandemic and work-from-home setup just made it harder.

There’s no shame in asking for a little help in organizing daily chores and office to-do’s and keeping oneself productive and sane. Thankfully, there are godsend free apps that can help busy girls—or anyone—seize each day.

Are you glowing, girl?

It can be difficult to keep track of Aunt Flo’s monthly visits, especially when not everyone has a consistent cycle. While you can simply write down your monthly start and end dates on a notes app, using an app like Glow can provide you with more information regarding your cycle such as your ovulation period and health down there. It can even predict when your next cycle will likely arrive.

Noted with thanks

Everyone has a trusted note-taking app, like the standard Notes app on the iPhone. But sometimes all we need is something that works, and works well. Enter Notion, a note-taking app you can customize to become your all-in-one workspace. It has a lot of useful built-in templates, from traditional to-do-lists to a modern media Reading List. Project Manager Ann K.* uses a custom template to manage her personal and work notes. “There’s a lot of custom templates for Notion that you can download that are really useful!” she says. Notion is cross-platform so even Android users can take advantage of the sync function.

Track your mood

Some people keep mood journals and create handwritten habit trackers, but did you know there’s an app for that? Enter Tangerine, which touts itself as a self-care app. It helps you practice and keep the good habits you want to develop for a better quality of life. We all know how difficult it is to develop and stick to a new habit or workout routine, and having a little external help can make all the difference. College senior Ayeeshia N.* uses this app to keep track of her workout schedule and, interestingly, her mood. She says, “Having something that lets me be more mindful about how I feel and how I am doing really helps.”

Focus, sis

Focus To-Do is a useful little app when you need a little nudge each time your mind goes wandering. This app helps you concentrate on a task. If you’ve never heard of the Pomodoro technique, you should consider trying this app as it combines a Pomodoro timer with a task management system—helping you keep yourself on track while giving you space to breathe and remember that self-care is important.

Keep track on Trello

If you’ve been on any team before, then you might have heard of Trello. A handy little cross-platform project management tool that can help any team organize their tasks efficiently. With the easy-to-use interface and intuitive layout, any team can pick up this app and use it to keep their tasks organized and on track. You can even create separate boards for your personal life and work life for those who want to organize their to-do-lists in a more visual way.

Don’t forget your budget!

Any organized gal will want something that’ll help keep track of her budget. While you can definitely make do with a spreadsheet, the convenience of a dedicated budget app right on your home screen may be the thing you need when you’re too busy to keep track of bills and receipts. Marketing admin Andrea P.* likes using Money Manager over a traditional spreadsheet, “The charts are really helpful because I can see the breakdown of my expenses.”

Get in the right Headspace

At the end of a long workday, all we want to do is rest and get some relaxation in. This handy app makes meditation more approachable through tutorials and training videos. With Headspace, you can practice meditations and glean the benefits of meditating on a regular basis—perfect for the hectic life of a busy girl. Consider shopping for a good pair of earphones to block out any excess noise!

All apps are available for both iOS and Android users for free on the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store. If you’re interested in trying out these apps and you’re also in the market for a new phone, why not consider these Android options?
