WATCH: ‘Voltes V: Legacy’ featurette teases live-action adaptation of hit Japanese anime
In case you missed it, GMA released an online featurette over the New Year weekend for Voltes V: Legacy, the first ever live-action and CGI adaptation of the hit ’70s Japanese anime series.
The new featurette relased Friday (Dec. 31) reveals the cast in their final costumes, action scenes between Voltes V and the army of Prince Zardoz, and the interiors of the Boazanian Skull Ship and Camp Big Falcon, which were teased previously by Director Mark Reyes. It also shows a sneak peek behind-the-scenes of production and short interviews with the main cast.
The GMA Network-produced adaptation series stars Miguel Tanfelix as Steve Armstrong, Ysabel Ortega as Jamie Robinson, Radson Flores as Mark Gordon, Matt Lozano as Bert Amrstrong and Raphael Landicho as Little Jon Armstrong.
“Napaka-overwhelming ng scale ng buong produksyon (The scale of the whole production is so overwhelming). And I think this is one of the biggest projects of GMA,” said Tanfelix.
“Sobra na kaming excited (We’re so excited) to show you what we have been working on for the past two years," added Lozano.

The original 1970s anime Voltes V, which Voltes V: Legacy is based on, follows the story of young heroes saving Earth from enemies from far away planets. It was produced by Japanese Toei Company’s Toei Animation and Nippon Sunrise.
A dubbed version of the series, which aired on Philippine TV, became one of the most influential anime shows for Filipino audiences.
The series is popular across generations and is considered a pop culture icon among those who grew up during the martial law era.
Directed by Mark Reyes, all materials, including its script—written by Suzette Doctolero—and costume designs, were approved by Toei Company, Ltd. and its Philippine licensing agent Telesuccess Productions Inc.
The live-action adaptation has already reportedly received praise from the original producer. Voltes V: Legacy director Mark Reyes shared a message from the series’ mother company Toei on his Instagram page Sunday.
“Now I can share this. One of the best Christmas gifts I received was this kind letter of support from no less than ‘Voltes V’s’ home base in Japan, Toei Company,” he said.
Toei expressed excitement over the production of the live adaptation in the Philippines as it commended the show’s producers for their work amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Production may be tough under this [COVID-19] situation, but this time we wanted to inform you that we were so excited to see the promo-reel of the show. We could feel your respect to the original series [and] we also thank you for your effort, enthusiasm and hard work under this [COVID-19] situation,” Toei stated. “Please take care of yourselves and we shall continue to look forward to the completion of the show.”
An exact premiere date for Voltes V: Legacy has yet to be announced, but the series is included in GMA Network's "Kapuso Countdown to 2022,” of new offerings this year.
