Alan Moore's acclaimed comic book series is reportedly getting a film reboot at Hulu.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney’s studio division is working on a reboot of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, which will be written by Justin Haythe, whose previous works include Revolutionary Road and Red Sparrow.

Don Murphy, who produced 20th Century Fox’s film adaptation in 2003, is also attached in the reboot with producers Susan Montford and Erwin Stoff.

Other details about the film reboot are still unknown as of this writing but THR, citing sources, said that Haythe and the production team “are returning to the core comic books for their take.”

First published in 1999, the comic book series by Moore (Watchmen, V for Vendetta) and artist Kevin O’Neill is set in the 1800s and follows the story of Victorian superheroes like Mina Murray, Allan Quatermain, Captain Nemo, Dr. Henry Jekyll and the Invisible Man.

The comic book series, comprised of four volumes, a graphic novel and a spinoff trilogy, is best known for drawing inspiration from the works of various literary figures such as H.G. Wells, Arthur Conan Doyle, Ian Fleming, Oscar Wilde, Jules Verne, and Edgar Allan Poe.

The series won the National Comics Award for Best New Comic in 1999. The comic book series’ first volume also won the 2000 Bram Stoker Award for Best Illustrated Narrative while the second volume received the 2003 Eisner Award for Best Finite Series/Limited Series.

Additionally, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen’s second volume became Time’s 9th best comic of 2003 and also got included in the 2005 edition of The Year’s Best Graphic Novels, Comics, and Manga.

The film adaptation, on the other hand, received mixed reviews but managed to gross over $179 million in theaters worldwide despite a $78 million budget.

Directed by Stephen Norrington, the film starred Naseeruddin Shah, Peta Wilson, Tony Curran, Stuart Townsend, Shane West, Jason Flemyng, Richard Roxburgh, and Sean Connery, who reportedly retired following his role in the live-action adaptation.
