Google offers a new way to search with 'Circle to Search' feature

Google is making online searching easier and "radically more helpful" with its newest feature.

Dubbed "Circle to Search," the new AI-powered function offers an innovative way of searching anything on an Android phone with just a simple gesture that doesn't require you to switch apps.

To get more information about something, all you have to do is circle, tap, highlight, or scribble on text, images, or videos on an object you would like to explore. It could be a cute bag that popped up while watching a YouTube video, or a word you encountered while reading a friend's post on social media. You can even make use of multisearch, which lets you search with text and images at the same time and ask questions about your chosen topic to understand it better. When you're done, just swipe away to return to your original browser.

"We’ve only just scratched the surface of what’s possible," Google said in a release.

The new Google feature will be available on the Samsung Galaxy S24 series and other Android smartphones like the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro starting Jan. 31.

Apart from "Circle to Search," Google has also started allowing users to point their phone camera (or upload a photo) to a certain object and ask some questions about it on the search engine for more details.
