Apple iCloud to get 6TB, 12TB storage boosts that might cost up to P3.4K per month
Apart from launching the new iPhone 15 series, Apple announced today that its iCloud is getting two new storage boosts. But as with all things made by the premium tech brand, they might come at a price.
During Apple's "Wanderlust" event on Sept. 13 (Philippine time), the Cupertino-based company announced that it is giving its iCloud huge storage boosts of 6TB and 12TB.
To those of you who haven't subscribed just yet. iCloud is a cloud service that enables Apple users to store and keep their photos, files, notes, passwords, and other data updated across all their Apple devices automatically.
Apart from that, iCloud helps you save space on your devices through its Optimize Storage feature. It works by only storing space-saving copies of your photos and videos on your device while their full-resolution counterparts are stored on the iCloud.
Since the service is also shareable with up to five people, iCloud makes it easy for you and your family or friends to share photos and videos among yourselves through a shared library.
Apple has since been offering 5GB of iCloud storage for free to non-subscribers. With the tech giant constantly upgrading the quality of its cameras, photos, and videos, it's no wonder why those who haven't availed of an iCloud plan, plus own a 128GB iPhone, end up having their RAMs (Random Access Memory) all maxed out.
The iCloud's upcoming storage boost is a big leap from its current lineup of 50GB, 200GB, and 2TB, which all include a custom email domain, HomeKit Secure Video, and a feature dubbed "Hide My Email" that allows you to send and receive messages without having to share your real email address.
According to Apple, iCloud's new 6TB and 12TB plans will come with the same features and Family Sharing of up to six people instead of just five.
However, expect to shell out some bucks when you upgrade because based on the old lineup's prices, the new iCloud plans could cost up to six times the biggest plan to date.
As of Sept. 13, the iCloud+ 50GB plan comes with a monthly fee of P50, the 200GB plan is at P149, and the 2TB plan costs P499 a month.
Meanwhile, Apple announced that the US price for its 6TB iCloud+ plan is $29.99 (P1,700) per month, and $59.99 (P3,400) a month for the 12TB plan.
The new plans are scheduled to roll out on Sept. 18 (US time), while prices for Philippines subscribers are still yet to be announced.
