Tom Hiddleston says he's always known about Loki’s queer identity

With the new Loki TV series hitting Disney Plus, Marvel confirms that the God of Mischief is gender-fluid.

Star Tom Hiddleston reveals that he’s always known about the antihero/villain’s queer identity.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, Hiddleston says “I have always been aware of it. I see it as my responsibility as somebody who is able to portray this character, at this time, that I honor the aspects of the character which are there in the canon.”

“It was important to [series director] Kate [Herron] and important to Michael [Waldron],” he continues. “The whole point of Loki is that Loki is a trickster, and crosses boundaries and can represent many different shapes. I was really pleased that we got to touch on that in this series.”

Loki being queer has been explored in the comic series Loki: Agent of Asgard, but the Marvel Cinematic Universe hasn’t explicitly acknowledged this fact prior to the new TV series. This is a first for the MCU as it has never had an openly queer protagonist until now.

Upcoming films Eternals and Thor: Love and Thunder are slated to continue bringing LGBTQIA+ representation into the MCU with more queer superheroes.

In a promo for Loki, Marvel officially confirmed about the gender-fluid identity. The teaser shows a quick shot of the Time Variance Authority on Loki with his sex listed as “fluid.”

The Disney Plus series stars Tom Hiddleston, Owen Wilson, Sophia Di Martino, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, and Richard E. Grant.
