Marcos on watching Coldplay's Manila concert: 'Unmissable dapat ‘yun, cannot miss'
“Siyempre, by now, alam ninyo siguro na music lover ako.”
This was President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s comment when asked about his family’s attendance during Day 1 of the British band Coldplay’s concert at the Philippine Arena in Bulacan last Jan. 19.
"I’ve been (a music lover) for a long time. I studied music for many years,” he said during an ambush interview with the press on Jan. 23, as captured by GMA News.
He noted that the likes of Coldplay performing in the country is “unmissable.”
"To have somebody like Coldplay, unmissable dapat ‘yun, cannot miss," he said.
The President also called the band’s show “fantastic” and “spectacular.”
“Ibang klase, 'di na tulad nung concert na pinupuntahan namin dati.”
Marcos, however, didn’t address criticisms about him riding the presidential chopper in going to the concert venue.
The two-day, sold-out concert saw heavy traffic around the Bulacan area, which frontman Chris Martin also poked fun at and wrote about during the show.
Social media users took Marcos to task for the “grave insult to millions of Filipino commuters."
Presidential Security Command Commander Nelson Morales, however, defended the presidential chopper use, saying it was vital to protect the president, especially with the "unprecedented influx" of 40,000 concertgoers.
Coldplay comprises Martin (vocals, guitars, keyboards), Jonny Buckland (lead guitars, backing vocals, keyboards), Guy Berryman (bass, backing vocals keyboards, synthesizers, percussion), and Will Champion (drums, backing vocals, keyboards, percussion).
Its hits include Yellow, The Scientist, Fix You, A Sky Full of Stars, Viva La Vida, Something Just Like This, and Adventure of a Lifetime.
