Heads up, Potterheads!
An all-new immersive ‘Harry Potter: The Exhibition’ will tour around the world in 2022
Wizards, witches, and muggles, get ready for more movie magic! An all-new immersive version of Harry Potter: The Exhibition may be heading to your city next year.
The museum-like traveling exhibit featuring a behind-the-scenes look at the Wizarding World—from the Harry Potter films and plays to Fantastic Beasts and more—is expected to go on a worldwide tour in 2022.
While it’s been years since Harry Potter cast his last spell in the books and on the big screen, fans around the world continue to be enchanted by the legacy of the Boy Who Lived and other characters from the magical world of Hogwarts and beyond.
For over 20 years, the Harry Potter stories and blockbuster films have captivated fans worldwide, gaining momentum in recent years as a new generation discovers the magic of the Wizarding World through the new films and games.
Potterheads itching for more magical encounters could possibly have their wish granted through the new immersive experience from Imagine Exhibitions in partnership with Warner Bros.
While the specific stops for the exhibition have yet to be announced, it promises to visit several regions, including North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. The first venue to host Harry Potter: The Exhibition will be announced within the next few months.
Lonely Planet reports that the experiential exhibit will offer visitors a closer look at some of the most iconic moments from the long-running Harry Potter films and stories, as well as the more recent Fantastic Beasts franchise, and the expanded Wizarding World.
In addition to featuring authentic props and original costumes from the Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts films, the exhibit will allow visitors to step into an elaborate environment that pays homage to the different characters and iconic settings of the Wizarding World such as Hogwarts School of Witchraft and Wizardry, the Gryffindor common room, Hagrid’s Hut and the Great Hall.
According to the announcement, the “scalable experience” is expected to be between 10,000 square feet and 20,000 square feet (929-1,858 sq. m.) in size.
Going beyond the seven novels and eight movies that originally introduced the world to Harry Potter, the exhibit will also showcase elements from the Tony and Olivier Award-winning stage show, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, and the first two of the five-part Fantastic Beasts film series.
"We are honored to be entrusted with the iconic Harry Potter brand and excited to develop and share an exhibition experience that celebrates the magic of the Wizarding World," Tom Zaller, CEO of Imagine Exhibitions, told Lonely Planet. "We look forward to working with world-class partners, promoters, and sponsors to bring an all-new Harry Potter: The Exhibition to fans around the globe."
Previously, Harry Potter: The Exhibition made its world premiere in Chicago in April 2009 before traveling on to Boston, Toronto, Seattle, New York, Sydney, Singapore, Tokyo, Edmonton, Sweden, Cologne, Paris, Shanghai, Brussels, The Netherlands, Madrid, Milan, Potsdam and Valencia.
