LOOK: 'Blonde' trailer shows Ana de Armas as the illustrious Marilyn Monroe
Ana de Armas might not be wearing Marilyn Monroe's actual gown like Kim Kardashian, but she sure does a good job of channeling the Hollywood icon in the first trailer for Blonde.
In the first teaser for the Netflix film, we see de Armas in Monroe's most iconic moments such as her performance of Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend from the 1953 musical Gentlemen Prefer Blondes.
Based on the best-selling novel by Joyce Carol Oats, Blonde is a reimagined telling of the life of Monroe—from her volatile childhood to her rise to stardom.
The film is directed by Andrew Dominik who told the actress he "wanted the world to experience what it actually felt like to not only be Marilyn, but also Norma Jeane," referring to Monroe's birth name. It will also explore the public and private life of the Hollywood sex icon.
The director even told Vulture that there's "something in it to offend everyone."
"Our movie is not linear or conventional; it is meant to be a sensorial and emotional experience," de Armas told Netflix Queue.
For the role, the actress studied hundreds of photographs, videos, audio recordings, and films of Monroe.
Blonde also stars Bobby Cannavale, Adrien Brody, Julianne Nicholson, Xavier Samuel, and Evan Williams, and debuts on Netflix on September 23.
