‘Metal Gear,’ ‘Castlevania,’ and ‘Silent Hill’ remakes reportedly in development

Japanese video game publisher Konami is reportedly working on new installments and remakes of fan-favorite titles like Metal Gear, Castlevania, and Silent Hill.

As reported by VGC, one of these projects, according to its sources, is a "reimagining" of a Castlevania game that's being developed internally at Konami, with support from local external studios.

The report added that a remake of Metal Gear Solid is also underway from Singaporean studio Virtuos, which previously worked on the Switch ports of popular games such as Dark Souls RemasteredThe Outer Worlds and The BioShock Collection.

The new project from Virtuos is said to be in early development, with multiple sources suggesting that the upcoming game would be a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater and not the original Metal Gear Solid. Additionally, VGC said that aside from Snake Eater, the Japanese publisher also plans to release remasters of the original Metal Gear Solid games for modern consoles "ahead of the larger project."

Lastly, multiple Silent Hill games are also underway from various external development studios, according to VGC, with one of the projects being handled by a "prominent Japanese developer."

VGC noted that Konami's higher-ups in Japan were previously not inclined to outsource its popular game franchises. However, after the "disappointing performance" of Metal Gear Survive and Contra: Rogue Corps, sources told VGC that the publisher became "more willing to contract outside studios for its major franchises."

It's worth mentioning that VGC's report appears to be in line with the company's previous statement which assured fans that the company is in "deep development on a number of key projects" despite dropping out from this year's E3 expo.

Konami will reportedly make an official announcement of its upcoming new projects at major trade shows in 2022.
