Linya-Linya and Fully Booked to showcase Pinoy artists, authors for Buwan ng Wika
Merchandise brand Linya-Linya, known for its quirky statement shirts, is collaborating with popular bookstore Fully Booked to showcase acclaimed Filipino authors and artists in celebration of Buwan ng Wika.
From Aug. 15 to 30, Linya-Linya will be displaying in Fully Booked's Bonifacio High Street, Alabang Town Center, and Cagayan De Oro branches its designs featuring:
- National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Ricky Lee, filmmaker/novelist/playwright whose body of work spans over four decades. He wrote over 180 screenplays, including Himala, Patayin sa Sindak si Barbara, José Rizal, Muro-Ami, and Anak;
- Lualhati Bautista, award-winning fictionist known for her political novels Dekada '70, Bata, Bata Pa'no ka Ginawa?, and 'GAPÔ. Last January, Penguin Classics, which houses titles from the global literary canon, offered to publish an English translation of Dekada '70;
- Edgar Samar, poet and novelist known for his young adult novel series Janus Silang. It revolves around a teenager who's fond of an online role-playing game that features Filipino folkore and mythological creatures;
- Pol Medina Jr., creator of the comic strip Pugad Baboy, which tackles and satirizes the everyday Filipino life. It also tends to offer a commentary on politics and other national issues;
- Manix Abrera, creator of the comic strip Kikomachine Komix, which explores the Filipinos' day to day experiences laced with humor;
- Rob Cham, a graphic novelist whose works Light and Lost won the National Book Award and National Children's Book Award, respectively. He's had a posthumous collaboration with National Artist for Visual Arts Larry Alcala, for a limited edition design of San Miguel Pale Pilsen in can, dubbed the IconiCan; and
- Kevin Raymundo, more popularly known as Tarantadong Kalbo, whose digital art inspects and even pokes fun at the Philippine government and other trending issues. His Tumindig, which features a lone raised-fist avatar amid a sea of groveling figures, sparked a national movement.
Fully Booked, meanwhile, said it's offering a 15% discount on selected Filipiniana titles for online orders until Aug. 12. Depending on the branch, the books of Lee, Bautista, Samar, Medina Jr., Abrera, Cham, and Raymundo are also up for grabs.
The Philippines holds Buwan ng Wika festivities every August to celebrate the national language and Filipino culture. According to the Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino, this year's theme is "Filipino at mga Katutubong Wika: Kasangkapan sa Pagtuklas at Paglikhâ," which aims to recognize and revitalize the indigenous peoples' languages which are on the brink of disappearance.
