Red Pill or Blue Pill? Mysterious ‘What is the Matrix’ website relaunches
Warner Bros. has relaunched the mysterious website whatisthematrix.com as part of the viral marketing campaign for The Matrix Resurrections, the fourth film in the franchise.
The official website for The Matrix franchise first went live back in 1998 when the first film came out, and popularized the iconic green Matrix cipher code trickling down the page. The digital rain code became a popular Windows screensaver for a time.
As reported by GeekTyrant, the site was re-registered and updated earlier this year, complete with all the legal notices, privacy policy, and cookie approval scripts from Warner Bros.
The website lets fans choose either a red pill or a blue pill.
Each choice leads to a constantly changing video clip featuring random scenes from the upcoming film. Whichever pill you click, the video teasers give viewers the exact time of the day they watch the video.

Depending on your choice, the site “will render one of over 180,000 unique teaser videos possible based on the pill chosen.”
Viewers also get different voiceovers from different characters over the traditional green text on a black screen.
And that's just the teaser for the trailer. The full trailer was recently screened for select audiences at CinemaCon 2021, but has yet to be released online.
Warner Bros. Studios has announced that the full trailer for the film will finally be released this Thursday, Sept. 9. at 6:00 a.m. PT (or 9:00 p.m. Philippine time).
People in the United Kingdom are also sharing photos of billboards on Twitter that have popped up teasing the release of the film’s trailer.

Officially titled The Matrix Resurrections, the fourth film is directed by Lana Wachowski and stars Keanu Reeves, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Jada Pinkett-Smith reprising their roles from the original trilogy, as well as newcomers to the series Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Christina Ricci, Jessica Henwick, and Jonathan Groff.
The Matrix Resurrections is set to be released in theaters on Dec. 22, 2021.
