‘That ’70s Show’ stars to reprise roles in Netflix sequel
The original Point Place gang is officially back in Netflix’s upcoming comedy series sequel, That ’90s Show.
According to the streaming platform, That ’70s Show alums Topher Grace (Eric Forman), Laura Prepon (Donna Pinciotti), Mila Kunis (Jackie Burkhart), Ashton Kutcher (Michael Kelso), and Wilmer Valderrama (Fez) will each return to guest star in That ’90s Show.
However, Danny Masterson, who played Stephen Hyde in the series, won’t be reuniting with his co-stars as the actor is set to stand trial on charges of rape.
To celebrate the good news, Grace and Valderrama both donned their old outfits to let the fans know that their beloved characters are officially returning to the highly-awaited sequel.
In addition to that, Netflix also gave fans their first look at That ’90s Show featuring Kurtwood Smith’s Red Forman and Debra Jo Ruppy’s Kitty Forman. Take a look below:
Set in 1995, the show follows the events of the original series and now focuses on Eric and Donna’s daughter, Leia, who heads to Wisconsin for the summer to stay with her grandparents, Kitty and Red.
The 10-episode multi-cam setup show will have Gregg Mettler as its showrunner with original creators Bonnie and Terry Turner serving as executive producers along with Smith, Rupp, Marcy Carsey, and Tom Werner.
Previously announced cast members joining Smith and Rupp’s Red and Kitty Forman in That ’90s Show is headlined by Callie Haverda (The Lost Husband), who will play the role of Eric and Donna’s daughter, Leia.
The new lead character, who is named after Princess Leia by her Star Wars-obsessed father, is smart like her mom but snarky like her dad. Leia is described as a person who craves adventure, but just not quite sure where or how to start.
Completing the new Point Place gang are Ashley Aufderheide (Gwen), Maxwell Acee Donovan (Nate), Mace Coronel (Jay), Reyn Doi (Ozzie), and Sam Morelos, who will play the role of Nikki.
First aired in 1998, Fox's hit comedy series ran for eight seasons with a total of 200 episodes.
Several years later, Fox attempted to replicate the show’s success, releasing a ’70s Show spinoff titled That ’80s Show. This time around, the show followed the story of Eric's first cousin Corey Howard during the height of the ’80s.
The sequel, however, failed to capture the essence of its predecessor, resulting in a 13-episode run in 2002.
Netflix has yet to announce the release date for That ’90s Show.
