The high-octane action blockbuster Fast & Furious saga will come to a close with a two-part finale, which will be helmed by five-time Fast & Furious director Justin Lin.

Universal Pictures is reportedly in talks with Justin Lin to direct the two final installments of the Fast & Furious global hit franchise, which has earned more than $5.7 billion worldwide, said to be the highest grossing movie series in Universal Pictures history. The franchise started in 2001 with Vin Diesel and the late Paul Walker as its lead stars.

Lin has directed the The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo DriftFast & FuriousFast Five, Fast & Furious 6 and Fast & Furious 9 (F9).

Early this year, main man Diesel suggested in an interview with Total Film, GamesRadar+’s sister publication, that the Fast & Furious 10 will be split into two parts. “I started planning for Fast 10 before we started filming Fast 9… The universe is so robust and so rich with talent and rich with story that, on one level, it’s totally feasible to have spinoffs, and I think that’s something that is inevitable,” Diesel said.

As the last two installments are still in their early stages of conception, Fast & Furious fans are asking if the characters of Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Jason Statham of the series’ spin-off Hobbs & Shaw will return for the finale. It was reported that Johnson and Diesel had a falling out behind the scenes while filming The Fate and the Furious in 2016.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Johnson said the falling out was due to a “fundamental difference in philosophies on how we approach moviemaking and collaborating.” The two actors have said to already be in “better” terms following Johnson’s video message for Diesel on Instagram in 2019 while thanking his fans for the success of Hobbs & Shaw.

“I want to thank brother Vin for your support for Hobbs & Shaw. What a wild ride this has been. Ten years ago, when you and I spoke and you invited me into the Fast & Furious family—I’m grateful for that invite,” Johnson said.

F9 stars Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris Bridges, John Cena, Jordana Brewster, Nathalie Emmanuel, Sung Kang, Helen Mirren, Charlize Theron, Michael Rooker and Cardi B.
