LIVE UPDATES: Highlights of the Emmy Awards 2022

Succession, an HBO drama centering on the dysfunctional Roy family, won the Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series.

It received 25 nominations at the 74th Emmy Awards—the most of any show this year.

AppleTV+'s Ted Lasso won the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series for the second consecutive year.

Last year, the comedy series won seven of the 20 Emmys, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for Jason Sudeikis.

HBO's The White Lotus earned an award for Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series or Movie at the 2022 Emmys.

The dark comedy is about a disparate group of people at a Hawaiian resort. It was written by Mike White who also took home the Emmy for Outstanding Writing for a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.

Netflix's Squid Game wins another award at the 2022 Emmys. This time, South Korean actor Lee Jung-jae took home the Emmys for Lead Actor in Drama Series.

He is the first Asian actor to ever win this award at the Emmys, and the fourth Asian actor to ever win an acting Emmy.

Zendaya clinched the prize for the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.

The 2022 Emmys put the spotlight on her role as Rue on Euphoria.

This is the second time she emerged as the winner in the same category, which she also won in 2020.

Hwang Dong-hyuk bagged the Emmy for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for Squid Game.

The hit Korean Netflix series is nominated for Best Drama, Lead Actor for Drama (Lee Jung-Jae), Supporting Actor for Drama (Park Hae-Soo and Oh Young-Soo), Supporting Actress for Drama (Jung Ho-Yeon), Writing for Drama (One Lucky Day written by Hwang Dong-hyuk).

“I want to thank the TV academy for this honor and also a huge thank you to Netflix,” he said in his acceptance speech. 

“I truly hope Squid Game won’t be the last non-English series to be here at the Emmys," he added, “and I hope this won’t be my last Emmys either!”

Lizzo tearfully accepted her Emmy award for Oustanding Competition Program for Lizzo's Watch Out for the Big Grrrls.

"I'm very emotional," she began her moving speech. "The trophy is nice, but my emotion is for the people on this stage, the stories that they shared. They’re not that unique, they just don’t get the platform. Let's just tell more stories!”

She recalled how when she was younger, all she wanted was to see someone like her in the media—"someone fat like me, Black like me, beautiful like me.” 

"Make some noise for my big girls!" she said, drawing cheers from the audience.

The 74th Emmy Awards is taking place on Sept. 12, Monday night in Los Angeles (Sept. 13, 8:00 a.m. Manila time).

Amanda Seyfried earned her first-ever Emmy for The Dropout, while Julia Garner marked her third win for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her Ozark role.

The TV shows with the top nominations for the night are Succession (25), Ted Lasso (20), and Squid Game (14).

Some of our favorite stars turned heads at the 2022 Emmys as they arrived on the red carpet.

Andrew Garfield looked dapper in a white suit that he paired with black shoes and sunglasses. He is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie for his performance in Under the Banner of Heaven. 

What a stunner! Sandra Oh, who is nominated for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for Killing Eve, wowed the audience in a purple jumpsuit with a shimmering blazer that matched her bottoms.

Squid Game star HoYeon Jung looked lovely as ever in a sequined dress that she balanced out with muted makeup and an old Hollywood bob. She's nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series for her role in the hit Korean Netflix series, which has a total of 14 nominations at the awards show.

Kenan Thompson introduced himself as the “Mayor of Television” as he opened the 74^th Emmy Awards.

“It is I, the mayor of television, Kenan Thompson,” he said, bringing cheers from the crowd.

“TV is all we have—from Netflix and chill to Paramount+ and eating dinner alone.” 

He pointed out the importance of television and the role it has played in people’s lives. “If it weren’t for TV, what would we do with our free time? Read a book? No one in this room has read a book in 50 years,” he joked. 

The comedian drew laughs with his performance inspired by various TV shows such as Friends, Game of Thrones, Law & Order, and Stranger Things, which has around 13 Emmy nominations this year.
