Jenna Ortega says ‘Wednesday’ Season 2 will focus on horror instead of romance
Wednesday fans will be seeing more horror and less romance in its second season.
Lead star Jenna Ortega talked about the show’s different approach to its second installment in a recent interview on Actors on Actors by Variety. “We’ve decided we want to lean into the horror aspect of the show a little bit more, because it is so lighthearted, and a show like this with vampires and werewolves and superpowers, you don’t want to take yourself too seriously,” she said.
“We’re ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great,” the 20-year-old added.
Jenna is set to reprise her role as the morbid and emotionally reserved titular character in the new season, which she will also be producing. “We had already been throwing out so many ideas, and I’m somebody who’s very hands-on. I want to know what’s going on. And with a character like Wednesday, who is so beloved and such a legend, I just really didn’t want to get her wrong,” she said.
“I want to see the outfits, new characters that are coming in, scripts, and they were gracious enough to let me put the producer hat on,” she continued.
In the first season of the hit series, she was joined by Gwendoline Christie, Jamie McShane, Emma Myers, and Christina Ricci as well as Catherine Zeta-Jones and Luis Guzmán, who appeared as guest stars. She was also in a love triangle with Tyler Galpin (Hunter Doohan) and Xavier Thorpe (Hynes White).
Wednesday Season 1 is streaming on Netflix. Further details about its next season, including its official release date, are yet to be revealed.
