Wayans brothers reunite for 'Scary Movie 6'
Get ready to scream with excitement as the Wayans brothers—Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen—are set to reunite for the first time in 18 years to develop a new Scary Movie film.
According to a report by Deadline, the trio will come together to write the screenplay for the sixth installment of the horror-comedy film franchise.
They will also be collaborating with film producer Rick Alvarez, who has worked with them for some of their most popular films such as White Chicks, A Haunted House, Little Man, Fifty Shades of Black, and more.
"We couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the new Scary Movie and work with each other again," Marlon, Shawn, and Keenen told the news outlet.
"This is a franchise we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing in the aisles and hope to see that happen again. We look forward to working with Jonathan Glickman and his team at the new Miramax to bring these laughs to theaters, where they belong. It’s a double reunion," they added.
To mark their new project, Marlon took to his social media account to post a picture of himself with a parody version of Ghostface, who was the killer in the first Scary Movie installment.
"After nearly 20 years, the Wayans brothers are finally going to give the fans what they’ve been asking for… a return to the SCARY MOVIE franchise! We’re looking forward to having fun on the big screen again," he captioned the post.
Glickman, who is the CEO of Miramax, meanwhile said that they are "thrilled to reunite Scary Movie with the Wayans brothers, the brilliant creators behind the beloved franchise."
"The timing is perfect to bring back the series to the big screen and we’re lucky to have Keenen, Marlon, and Shawn’s unique comedic vision bringing it to audiences around the world," he added.
The franchise, which has spawned a total of five movies since its premiere in 2000, is known for parodying popular horror movies. Some of the works that it has spoofed include Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Exorcist, The Ring, Saw, The Grudge, Paranormal Activity, and more.
Scary Movie 6 is slated to shoot next year for a theatrical release. It's not yet known whether Anna Faris and Regina Hall–the lead stars of the first four films–will return for the new installment. Marlon and Shawn have yet to disclose whether they will also be part of the cast as they did in the original Scary Movie and its sequel.
