WhatsApp will stop support for these Android and iOS devices by November
The Facebook-owned messaging platform WhatsApp has announced that the app will no longer support older Android and iOS devices by November 1.
The support for older devices ends as WhatsApp keeps bringing in new features and safety updates. The app will completely stop working on phones that don't meet the hardware and software requirements of the next software updates.
Android devices that run on Icecream Sandwich OS (Android 4.0.4, released in 2011) will stop supporting the messaging app. Phones that won't be able to use WhatsApp include the Samsung Galaxy SII, Galaxy S3 mini, Sony Xperia, Huawei Ascend phones, and older phones from Alcatel and HTC.
Meanwhile, support for WhatsApp ends on the following iOS devices: iPhone 6S, iPhone 6S Plus, and iPhone SE (1st generation).
To keep using the app, users will have no choice but to upgrade their phones or switch to a different chat app entirely. They can back up their chat history to retain all their media and conversations before moving to a new device.
