‘Boundless: Magellan and the Clash in Mactan’ to be available on Viva One

Viva One, Vivamax’s newest streaming channel, takes viewers on a daring voyage in search of fame and fortune in Boundless: Magellan and the Clash in Mactan on April 17, available in both Tagalog-dubbed and original Spanish audio only on Viva One.

Loosely based on the renowned 1519-1522 journey, Boundless (Spanish title: Sin límites) is a six-part mini-series that depicts a fictionalized account of the Magellan-Elcano expedition which ultimately led to the clash between the opposing forces of Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan and Datu Silapulapu in Mactan, Cebu.

Directed by Simon West, this swashbuckler stars Rodrigo Santoro and Alvaro Morte. Santoro plays the role of Ferdinand Magellan, an ambitious explorer whose tenaciousness would later inspire navigator Juan Sebastian Elcano, who is portrayed by Morte. Together, they venture into treacherous waters hoping to make history in the first-ever circumnavigation of the world.

Denied by the king of his own country, Magellan turns to the royal court of Spain instead and proposes his challenging route to the Spice Islands. Intrigued by the benefits of the voyage, King Charles I allows the expedition to commence under the Spanish flag. Searching every able-bodied sailor, Magellan comes across Spanish helmsman Juan Sebastian Elcano, who’s serving imprisonment caused by a huge debt he could not settle. Freed by the orders of his new commander, Elcano joins Magellan’s crew and sail westward from the shores of Spain.

After some time, the challenging voyage would soon encounter situations that escalate from bad to worse. Apart from the inevitable in-fighting among the ranks, Magellan and Elcano will face adverse circumstances against a Portuguese war fleet, unpredictable conditions of the sea, and formidable Philippine tribesmen led by the fearless Mactan Datu Silapulapu. The odds may not be in their favor, but their determined spirits allow them to push beyond their limits and ultimately achieve daring feats that have never been done before.

West made his directorial debut with crime thriller Con Air. His other projects were Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and The Expendables 2.

Lead actors Rodrigo Santoro starred in Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, Westworld, and the 300 film series. Morte, on the other hand, was featured in dramatic long-running Spanish TV shows and achieves worldwide recognition with hit heist thriller La Casa de Papel or Money Heist.
