Facebook is launching a TikTok-like rapping app called Bars
The future is now… or was it in 2016?
Taking inspiration from popular home-made online videos taking over the internet, Facebook is rolling out a new app that may look familiar to the Millennial and Gen Z crowd.
Enter BARS, a new app that lets you record yourself spitting 60-second bars (get it?) over premade beats. The app works similar to the voice-over software featured in similar tools like Dubsmash and TikTok, as it even offers a built-in AutoTune system and rhyming dictionary that can help out aspiring singers with their rap flow.
The app’s use would depend on your skill level, as Beginners (less than a year of experience) automatically get auto-rhyming suggestions, while those in the Advanced level (4+ year experience) will be given a Freestyle mode, where you have to create an original 16-bar rap song from eight random words.
If you're a little wary of your own rap game though, BARS assures that "there's no formal rap experience required, you can create something great whether you’ve just thought of a dope couplet or have been freestyling for years."
BARS is now available for download in the iOS App Store. Though it’s still currently in beta mode, aspiring rappers can now get the app to reserve a username while on the waitlist.
