Prayers answered: Netflix's 'Warrior Nun' to return after cancelation

Thanks to its fans, Netflix’s Warrior Nun is returning for season 3 after cancellation, said series creator Simon Barry.

Simon took to Twitter to formally announce the show’s return because of “combined voices, passion and amazing efforts” by fans.

"#WarriorNun will return and is going to be more EPIC than you could imagine. More details to come! SOON! Thank-you!!" he wrote, adding the hashtags #SaveWarriorNun and #WarriorNunSaved.

There is no confirmation if the series will be streamed on Netflix or if it has found its home on other streaming platforms, although there were several campaigns pitching the show to other platforms like Max, Amazon, and Hulu.

The supernatural drama premiered on Netflix in July 2020 and was quickly renewed for a second season. The first season even re-entered Netflix's global top ten list after the second season premiered. However, the show was ultimately canceled by Netflix in December 2022.

Immediately, fans of the fantasy action series started an online petition that was signed by over 120,000 people and rented a billboard in front of the Netflix headquarters in Los Angeles in January that read: "#SaveWarriorNun".

The billboard was funded through a crowdfunding campaign that raised $47,230 (P2,617,369) for a hopeful revival of the show.

In February, the Big Apple welcomed the Warrior Nun campaign when digital billboards were also rented near Time Square on the Port Authority Bus Terminal, which is known to be a high-traffic location from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Friday through Sunday until the 3rd of March.

The uprising continued four months after the cancellation, and the campaign went global. After it's New York and Los Angeles invasions, they conquered London, Italy, and Rio de Janeiro.

Warrior Nun is best known for strong female characters, like protagonist Ava (portrayed by Alba Baptista), who is revived and given supernatural skills by a sacred item called the halo. Shotgun Mary (portrayed by Toya Turner) is a nun in the Order of the Cruciform Sword who works with Ava to protect sacred objects and exterminate demonic threats to the planet.
