‘Home Alone’ reboot coming to Disney Plus in November

Home Alone, the Christmas classic which starred Macaulay Culkin as a young Kevin McCallister originally released 31 years ago, is getting a reboot.

The film produced by Disney features a new cast and characters under a similar premise to the original 1990 film, with Jojo Rabbit’s Archie Yates starring as the kid who gets left behind by his family. 

The upcoming reboot titled Home Sweet Home Alone will debut exclusively on the Disney Plus streaming platform on November 12, 2021, just in time for the holiday season.

Here’s the official synopsis, as reported by ScreenRant: 

“The new Home Alone film, directed by Dan Mazer, follows a mischievous young boy named Max Mercer (played by Archie Yates) who gets left behind when his family travels to Japan for the holidays—very reminiscent of Kevin. Max has to protect a priceless heirloom from a couple (played by Ellie Kemper and Rob Delaney) trying to break into his family’s home to steal it. Of course, his tactics include chaotic hijinks and probably a booby trap or two.”

The film also stars Kenan Thompson (Saturday Night Live), Aisling Bea, Pete Holmes, Tim Simons, and more.

According to ScreenRant, the film will feature cameos from original stars Macaulay Culkin and Devin Ratray reprising their respective roles as Kevin and Buzz McCallister. 

The original Home Alone, which premiered in 1990 is considered one of the most beloved holiday movies to date. The first film spawned a 1992 sequel, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, which featured the same cast and premise in a new location.
